This Privacy Policy explains how WordUp ("we", "us", or "the app") handles user information. WordUp is designed from the ground up to be an offline-first, privacy-respecting English vocabulary learning application for Android.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
WordUp operates entirely on your device. We do not operate user accounts, and we do not collect, transmit, share, or sell any personal information. Specifically:
- No personal identification data (name, email, phone number, physical address).
- No device identifiers, advertising IDs, IP addresses, or location data.
- No usage telemetry, analytics events, or behavioural tracking.
- No voice recordings or speech audio files.
2. Android Permissions Requested
WordUp requests only the permissions necessary to deliver its core learning features:

Spoken input is processed locally and in real time using Android's system speech recognizer (SpeechRecognizer API). Local Daily Reminders: Used to show optional study and streak reminder notifications. All notifications are scheduled directly on your device via the Android AlarmManager. No external push notification servers are used.

No Internet Permission: WordUp does not request the android.permission.INTERNET permission. The application cannot connect to the internet or transmit any data from your device.
3. Local Data Storage
All application data is stored locally in a private on-device SQLite database (Android Room) on your device storage:
- Your vocabulary quiz answers and review history.
- Spaced repetition learning intervals and mastery status.
- Daily study streak count and user preferences (e.g., avatar selections).
This data never leaves your physical device unless you use Android's built-in operating system backup features associated with your personal Google account.
4. Third-Party Services & Tracking
WordUp contains:
- No advertising SDKs (e.g., Google AdMob, Unity, AppLovin).
- No analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel).
- No third-party trackers or social network SDKs.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all data resides exclusively on your device, you have complete control:
- Clear App Data: You can permanently wipe all study history and progress at any time via Settings > Apps > WordUp > Storage & Cache > Clear Storage.
- Uninstalling: Uninstalling the application completely deletes all local databases and cached application files from your device.
6. Children's Privacy
WordUp does not collect personal information from any user, including children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in applicable jurisdictions). The app is safe for all audiences and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
7. Security
Your local application data is protected by Android's application sandboxing architecture, which restricts other applications from accessing WordUp's internal storage without explicit permission.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
If we update our application features or privacy practices in the future, any changes will be published directly on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
